What do volunteers do?
Volunteers take on a variety of roles and tasks at the Good Food Box. Some roles include volunteer team leaders, customer service personnel, greeters, cleaners, organizers/movers and board members.
Some tasks include: picking up, receiving/inventory, sorting and distributing produce, setting up, tearing down and cleaning the hall, delivery drivers, customer service, data entry, managing social media, developing our newsletter and community networking just to name a few.
The Volunteer Coordinator will work with you to find a good fit for your availability and skill set.
Do I need any previous experience or specific skills?
What is the time commitment?
The time commitment can differ based on the specific volunteer activity. We have an active volunteer board of directors who volunteer their time throughout the month and we have our main event – produce distribution week once per month.
Distribution week lands during the 3rd week of every month. A new schedule sign up form is circulated each month on the Friday before distribution week. Volunteers can sign up for shift(s) ranging from 2 to 4 hours with no limit on how many shifts a volunteer can sign up for. That said, we are dependent on those scheduled to show up, so please only sign up for shift(s) that align with your availability.
I need to change my availability after signing up
We understand that life can be unpredictable and situations may change.
If your availability changes after signing up, kindly inform us in advance by emailing volunteer@goodfoodbox.ca.
Alternatively, you can revisit the original shift sign-up email link to update your availability on the schedule.
This way, we can open up the spot for others who may want to help.
Who do I ask if I have any questions?
Please email our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@goodfoodbox.ca. She will be happy to help.
Can volunteers have some of the left over produce ?
Volunteers who have worked a minimum of 4 hours during the current month’s distribution week and have signed up via our Doodle Scheduler are welcome to come to All Saints at 6pm on distribution day to share the leftover produce.
Please note: there is not always produce leftover to share. It is at the Program Coordinators discretion how the leftover produce will be distributed.
Can the Good Food Box Provide a Certificate of Recognition for Volunteer time?
Absolutely! To qualify, we encourage volunteers to complete 12 hours within a year’s time. To track your hours each person must sign up via the Doodle schedule link, then sign in onsite at the start of each shift and you must have a supervisor sign off once you’ve completed your hours.
Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@goodfoodbox.ca if you meet the above criteria and wish to receive a Good Food Box certificate of recognition.
